Paris-born singer/songwriter Mai Lan Doky is emerging as one of the next faces of European R&B and Soul. With her natural and organic voice she is often described as a modern Sade. With a new sensibility and depth, her compelling songs chronicle urban millennial life from a new and refreshing perspective. Rooted in mainly soul, R&B and hip-hop, Mai’s music is an open mirror for listeners to explore their own feelings and reach greater self-realization. Her live performances are celebrated for their warmth and spiritual resonance.
Aside from her solo career, Mai has also guest appeared with notable artists such as Sister Sledge, Harvey Mason and Rolling Stones bassist Darryl Jones. With her mixed cultural background—Danish, Guyanese, and Vietnamese—Mai’s musical influences are richly diverse.
As the daughter of renowned jazz pianist, composer, and producer Niels Lan Doky, Mai grew up surrounded by jazz royalty. So naturally jazz is also a part of her native musical vocabulary. And she also performed Caribbean music with her mother’s carnival band from an early age, adding another vibrant layer to her musical upbringing.
After spending time in London in 2023, Mai found new inspiration and ways to turn her innermost personal experiences into songs. She subsequently began working on the tracks in Copenhagen with her lifelong musical partner, her twin brother Ken Linh Doky whose credits include, among others, French pop stars Aya Nakamura and SCH and American Def Jam recording artist Aliah Sheffield . Ken is the pianist, composer, producer, and musical director for Mai’s upcoming EP “Girl’s Talk” – co-produced alongside French producer Teaz and with additional contributions from Danish producer Bleu.
